Description

In this lesson students will have a reading on the topic of futurological conference. At the beginning i will introduce the concept of science fiction films and future predictions. Then they will have a pre- reading task. After that they will skim the reading and do a gist task. After that we will have some post reading tasks and vocabulary teaching. Finally, they will have a discussion on the topic of the reading (productive skill).

Materials

Main Aims

  • Reading (futurological conference) The students will read some paragraphs on the topic of future predictions that include vocabularies such as theory, invention,space, advantage, etc.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide an opportunity to speak on the topic of the reading and to teach a few new vocabularies.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Lead-in) (5-7 minutes) • To introduce the concept of science fiction films and prediction.

- First I will ask : "Do you like watching movies?" to prepare them for the pictures of movies. -CCQs: what is it? Are they films? Are they real or fiction? Are they about past, present or future? Are they love stories? Are they science fiction films? - Then I will writ "science fiction films" on the board and will say that they are about future predictions. - After concept checking we will have a short speaking: Which science fiction movies have you seen?/ Do you like it?/ What is it about?

Stage2 (Pre-reading) (5-6 minutes) • To prepare the students for the reading, To have a short speaking, to pre-teach some new words.

- I will teach a few new vocabularies here( about 3-4, and quickly) - Then pass out HOs after clear instruction and a short ICQs.( They will read the phrases and discuss whether they will happen in the future. -WCFB

Stage3 (While-reading) (6-7 minutes) • they will read the text and match the topics with the paragraphs. (gist task)

- I will pass out HOs (reading) and ask them to skim the text and match the paragraphs with the topics. (after clear instructions and ICQS) Peer-chechin, WCFB

Stage 4 (while-reading/scanning) (7-9 minutes) • To read for specific details. (scanning)

- I will pass out the HOs (after giving clear instructions and ICQs). They will read the reading and answer the Qs. - Peer checking (Mingling)/ WCFB

Stage 5 (post-reading) (6-8 minutes) • To focus on a few vocabularies from the text (in the context).

- I will teach a few vocabularies here (realia and examples will be helpful) - Then I will pass out HOs and ask the Ss to do it individually( complete the sentences by the word given). - Peer checking WCFB

Stae 6 (speaking) (5-6 minutes) • To provide an aopportunity for the Ss to speak on the related topic. (productive skill/ speaking)

-Here the students will make groups and choose a paragraph from the text and discuss it. WCFB

Stage 7(extra activity) (5 minutes) • To do practice the new vocabulary in case of having extra time.

- In case of having extra time we will play the hangman to practice new vocabulary.
