Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Walk in and start a discussion about the current weather reports as more and more people feel sick in these days. Winter is coming:) Tell ss that there are also extraordinary weather conditions like tornados. Ask ss questions about it. Let ss talk about it for some time. Hand in "Comperatives and Superlatives Extra Material (Reading)+(Mechanic)". Ask the first 3 questions. Let ss talk about the answers. Discuss these questions for some time. (Try to use cooperative or superlative phrases more)

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Let ss look at the text but do not let ss read it. Instruct ss to scan the text in a few minutes and underline the answers or clues if any (explain the questions if needed). When ss finish, let them compare their answers or ideas with their partners. Anticipated Problems:SS may not be experienced enough for scanning technique. Explain it.

While-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Instruct ss for Exercise 4. Ask ICQs. Arrange pairs. Let ss finish the exercise in 5-6 minutes. Walk in the classroom and help ss if needed. When most ss finish, let them check and compare their answers with other groups. Give FB. (Emphasize comperative and superlative phrases more while giving FB). Anticipated Problems:SS may not answer the questions of "Why?" or "Why not?". Ask ICQs. Explain ss that the answer of the fourth question is not in the text. SS must think about it.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Instruct ss for Exercise 5. Arrange groups of two or three. Change partners. Give ss 2-3 minutes for the task. When ss finish, let them compare their answers with other groups. Give FB. (Emphasize cooperative and superlative phrases more).

Grammar Activity (5-10 minutes) • To practice the grammar

Let ss turn the page and instruct Exercise 6. Mind the extra information. SS are expected to look at the tornado map of the USA and fill the gaps according to it. SS are also expected to use the adjectives in the brackets only. No pair work this time. Let ss finish the activity. Ask ss to compare their answers with their friends next to. Give FB (Emphasize cooperative and superlative phrases more).
