Procedure

Stage 1 (Warmer/Lead-in) (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students by creating interest in the theme

- Have the twelve pictures representing the horoscope star signs ready in the WB. - Introduce the lesson by asking the SS to look at pictures, and elicit from them what the pictures are about. - Give two pieces of paper to each table with two star sign names and dates. GW: Give them a minute to try to match their papers to the pictures. Get each table to send one of their team to stick their papers by the correct pictures. - Do FB to check the answers. Make some drilling of the words.

Stage 2 (Pre-Reading) (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Ask some of the SS what their star sign is. -PW: ask them to discuss if they believe in horoscopes, and if they read it often. If necessary, write in the WB the questions: How often do you read your horoscope? Do you believe what it says? Get FB. -Link to the text. Explain that I will give them an article related to horoscopes, and they will have to choose the best title for it. Before giving the article HO, give them the title options and explain the vocabulary (elicit the meaning of the words and phrases from them, and then make clarification and CCQ´s)

Stage 3 (While-Reading #1 Skimming Sub-skill) (8-10 minutes) • Reading for gist

- Remind them about the task: to choose the best title for the article. Give 1b HO and make it clear that they have to do the task alone . -WG to check answers. Get FB

Stage 4 (While-Reading #2 Scanning Sub-Skill) (12-15 minutes) • Reading for specific information

- Explain that this article was badly torn out of the magazine and the first words in each line of paragraphs 2 and 3 are not complete. Short WG to agree on what the first word is in each line. Give an example. FB: complete words from the SS. Write answers on the WB if it is necessary. - Before handing out the 2a HO, tell the SS that they will read again the article, and they are going to complete the sentences with words from the text. WG to check. - Get WCFB. Make sure they understand the meaning of the words by giving examples and use CCQ's.

Stage 5 (Post-Reading) (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and practice what they've learned by using the new vocabulary and skeaping.
