INTRODUCTION (0-5 minutes) • FAMILIARISATION

1. INTRODUCE MYSELF 2. SS INTRODUCE THEMSELVES 3. TELL SS WHAT WE WILL BE DOING WITH FRIEND WORDS a) VERBS TO NOUNS b) NOUNS TO NOUNS c) LISTENING EXERCISE d) GAME 4. TELL SS THEY WILL BE MIXING

EXERCISE 1 (5-15 minutes) • INTRODUCE VERB TO NOUNN CONSTRUCTIONS

1. ALL CLASS TOGETHER AROUND ME - DEMONSTRATE A MATCH VERB TO NOUNS 2. INSTRUCTIONS: a) WORKING IN PAIRS b) EACH PAIR WILL GET A SET OF MATCHING CARDS; EQUAL VERBS AND NOUNS c) WHEN I SAY START YOU FIVE MINUTES HAVE TO MATCH THE VERBS TO THE NOUNS 3. MONITOR 4. AFTER FIVE MINUTES CHANGE THE PAIRS SO “NEW PAIRS” CAN REVIEW AND REVISE

EXERCISE 2 (15-20 minutes) • PRACTISE SPEAKING THE WORDS

1. DEMONSTRATE BY ASKING AND ANSWERING TWO QUESTIONS 2. INSTRUCTIONS: a) WORKING IN PAIRS ASK EACH OTHER Q&A BASED ON THE WORDS ON THE (START WITH THE NOUNS” – “DO YOU DRINK TEA IN THE MORNNG?” “NO I DON’T. I DRINK COFFEE”/”WHEN DID YOU LAST EAT A SANDWICH?” “THIS MORNING OR YESTERDAY OR LAST WEEK”.

INSTRUCTIONS: a) WORKING IN PAIRS b) EACH PAIR WILL GET A SET OF MATCHING CARDS; EQUAL NOUNS AND NOUNS – MATCH THEM TO FORM COMPOUND NOUNS c) WHEN I SAY START YOU FIVE MINUTES HAVE TO MATCH THE NOUNS TO THE NOUNS 3. MONITOR 4. AFTER FIVE MINUTES CHANGE THE PAIRS SO “NEW PAIRS” CAN REVIEW AND REVISE

1. DISTRIBUTE HO3 FACE DOWN – LISTENING ANSWER SHEET 2. INSTRUCTIONS: a) YOU WILL LISTEN TO FOUR SHORT CONVERSATIONS. IN EACH ARE TWO NOUNS THAT TOGETHER MAKE A COMPOUND NOUN. b) WHEN I TELL YOU YOU ARE TO WRITE THOSE NOUNS IN THE SPACES c) I WILL PLAY ONCE WITH YOUR ANSWER SHEET DOWN AND ONCE AGAIN WHERE YOU THEN COMPLETE THE ANSWERS ON THE HANDOUT – ONE MINUTE TO COMPLETE 3. MONITOR 4. SS SWAP WITH PARTNER FOR CHECKING AND DISCUSSION

EXERCISE 5 (35-44 minutes) • RESERVE GAME - IF TIME ONLY

1. SHOW GAME PICTURE AND EXPLAIN THAT IN THE PICTURE ARE MANY COMPOUND NOUNS – GIVE EXAMPLE OF SAUCE BOTTLE 2. INSTRUCTIONS: a) WORK IN GROUPS – FIVE MINUTES FOR THE GAME b) IDENTIFY THE NOUNS c) WHEN I SAY GO ONE MEMBER OF EACH TEAM IS TO WRITE THE ANSWERS – MARKEDS OFF FOR INCORRECT SPELLING 3. MONITOR 4. EACH TEAM ANNOUNCES THEIR RESULTS /T CHECKS INCLUDING FOR SPELLING 5. PUT SCORES ON WB 6. ALL SS THEN MINGLE AND LOOK AT ALL THE ANSWERS TO COME UP WITH A “TOTAL LIST” 7. I ANNOUNCE THERE ARE AT LEAST 23!
