Description

In this lesson, the students learn about the use of SHOULD in order to address suggestions and advice. The learners will take advantage of some photos and writing as well as reading in addition to speaking in pairs and groups to receive practice in this area.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T provides the class with a set of photos that indicate various health problems. T elicits the vocabulary relative to the pictures. T writes the vocabulary on the board.

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T provides the class with a conversation at a drug store in which speakers mention their health problems (the aforementioned health problems). In this conversation, examples of should are used. T Writes two questions on the board based on the listening and the students answer the questions with their books closes. Ss give the answers WC. Students listen and read the conversation. Ss play roles PW.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T writes the word 'should' on the board so that the Ss would find examples in the conversation. T writes the examples she needs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T elicits the grammar using questions and comparison + CCQs (meaning) T focuses the learners' attention on the form (elicitation of the form through questions) T focuses on the pronunciation through back-chaining and choral and individual drills highlighting the points relative to should.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives instructions and checks the instructions (ICQ) so that the learners would know how to do the gap-fill exercise. T checks the answers WC and then mistakes are rectified through elicitation.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T instructs the class to do another role-play as STUDENTS and TEACHERS to provides each other with five pieces of advice.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T presents the class with one pictures. T models the task WC. T gives out the rest of the photos Ss do a PW. T monitors activity. T takes notes of the mistakes. T elicits the correct answers.
