Procedure

Warm-up / pre reading (3-5 minutes) • To introduce introduce the reading text

I show ss pictures of breakfast from six different countries ask them to identify each one and then give reason for their answers

Skimming (8-10 minutes) • To choose the correct summary for each paragraph.

SS read the text very quickly and then choose the sentence that best summarizes each paragraph. There are five sentences a - e

Answer checking (3-5 minutes) • To check answers of the gist reading task.

Here ss work in pairs and compare their answers. After that we do a whole class checking.

Scanning (10-15 minutes) • To read for details.

SS read the text again and the mark the sentences as true or false.

Answer checking (3-5 minutes) • To check answers to the scanning task.

Again ss work in pairs and compare their answers. We do a whole class checking after that

Post reading. (5-7 minutes) • To consolidate the reading text and the third conditional

I write this real past sentence on the board ' I didn't have breakfast this morning because I got up late ' and elicit the unreal sentence from ss. If they are not able to do it, I'll give it to to them as a model. After that I'll write three or four more real past sentences on the board and ask ss to make third conditional sentences from each one. They have to write down their sentences in their books.

Answer checking / speaking (3-5 minutes) • To check answers and also to do some speaking

SS exchange swap papers and check each other's sentences. Finally, I'll write some questions on the board and in pairs, they ask and answer them.
