Description

in this lesson students work on their listening skills, especially listening for specific information and detail through a conversation about different jobs.the lesson ends with a speaking activity about their dream jobs.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about do you like your job in the context of different jobs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of what your favorite job is

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the picture of a car dealer. Ask Ss to look at the picture carefully and ask them who do they think the people are and what are they doing.

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

now show them the main picture of the listening file and ask them to guess individually who they are and what is the situation for 2 minutes. then ask them to peer-check their guesses. after that play the recording file for them to check if their guesses true.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

now show them the hand-out of exercise No.1 which is listening for specific information and give them instructions such as "ok! now before I'm going to play the file again I want you to look at this paper.There are five rows with yes/no choices and I want you to listen the recording and check the correct answer if they like their jobs or not." then do the ICQ and ask them what are we going to do? after that hand out the papers and tell them to look through the paper quickly. Play the recording file and answer the first question by eliciting the answer from them in order to make sure that they fully understand the task. After playing the file ask them to peer check their answers. then Ss find correct answers on the two sides of class's walls.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this stage show them the Ex.2 paper and and give them proper instructions:"ok! now I want to play the file again. here are 10 sentences about the reasons of why every person like or dislike his/her job. check the correct answer." now ask them what are we going to do? distribute the papers and ask them to read it quickly.For more instruction do the first item for them and then continue to play the recording. after the file has finished ask them to check their answers with their partners. For whole class feedback show them the correct answers on the screen

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Now ask them to stand up in two rows in front of each other and discuss about what is their favorite and why? all the students should talk about this matter together. while they are talking,monitor them from behind with a pen and a piece of their in order to write good languages and languages that needs reformulation. After they finished their discussion write the good structures on the board in order to encourage them and write the languages that need reformulation and elicit the form from them.
