Description

In this lesson, the SS revise subject and object pronouns with one free and one controlled practice. As a warm up, the SS start to do a matching exercise and following the warm up the teacher gives the answer key to the matching exercise and tries to elicit the rule on the smart board. Finally, he assigns a piece of homework on SB.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows a picture of his friend and one of his belongings. After he describes him, he tells that that item belongs to him by using subject and object pronouns. Then he divides the class into four groups and hands out the matching cards to each group.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The SS try to match the blue cards with the white ones with their pairs in 5-6 minutes. After their time is up, the teacher shows the answer key on the smartboard and tries to elicit the rule of using subject and object pronouns. (The subject and object pronouns are highlighted in red on the answer sheet.)

Highlighting (2-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The teacher asks the SS to define the rule. After receiving their answers, he tries to elicit the use of target language by asking them to do a fill-in exercise on the smartboard.

Clarification (2-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher explains the rule by showing the answer key to the fill-in exercise and use CCQs to check whether the SS have learnt it or not.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher asks the student pairs to do the sixth exercise on page 4 in 3 minutes and then he checks the answers with the whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The teacher assigns the seventh exercise on the fourth page as homework. Or the SS may do it in the class with their pairs if the time permits.
