A1 - grade 2 level

Description

Students will review and clarify the "f" sound, with teacher modelling, video modelling, worksheet work and the "The Frog's Love Story". Students will as a result, be taught various vocabulary words beginning with the "f" sound

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking phonics practice for the letter "f" sound in the context of " The Frog's Love Story"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide vocabulary clarification, review and practice in the context of "The Frog's Love Story"

Procedure

Review (2-4 minutes) • Review the last lessons phonics and vocabulary

Elicit the correct letter and sound, and then as many TL vocabulary, giving points out for each.

Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To engage students with the phonic TL ie the "F" sound.

Play the BB video once or twice.

Warmer (7-10 minutes) • To engage students with the context and the TL in an active way.

A matching HO will be demonstrated and handed out for the students to complete alone or in pairs. The T will instruct them to do it in pairs, but their is no need to enforce it, as long as they are working on it. After 5 minutes more or less, the teacher will show the answered version of it and ask them to correct. On the back of the sheet there will be a coloring activity involving the fox and the frog.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Go through the presenting focusing only on the pictures, eliciting answers from the ss. Next go through it again, while playing the audio file (if at all possible i.e. if the ss are quite enough to listen)

Break (1-2 minutes) • To provide further modelling of the F sound and provide a break in the teaching as well

Play the StoryBots video once or twice.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Go through the flashcards quickly. Then ask a student per team to come up. Each will go through all of the Flascards looking towards the class so that the other students don't see the flashcards and don't interfere. One point per correct answer. Pronunciation has to be correct as well. Then the game goes forward with everyone, the whole class, asking the students who don't raise their hands specifically.

Consolidation (3-5 minutes) • Provide an opportunity for the ss to recall and remember the sentences from the story.

Go through the Story PPt again, once or twice

Cool down (6-7 minutes) • Provide a fun exposure around the theme of the letter F

Ply the sesame street video
