A1 - grade 2 level

This lesson is a follow-up to a prior lesson on the "d" sound and has the same target language and aim : "Students will review and clarify the "d" sound, with teacher modelling, video modelling, worksheet work and the "Dancing Dad" story. Students will as a result, be taught various vocabulary words beginning with the "d" sound." This lesson will pick-up where the previous one left off as the latter usually has an excess of content.

Subsidiary Aims

Play the nursery tracks video/game

Exposure + Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Go through the story with the ss, using the whole sentences. Use this opportunity to drill the D sound.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and consolidate ss understanding of the context story

Images and sentences from the Dancing Dad story are stuck to the board and to rectangular zones are drawn so that the ss can match them together for points for their own team. If time is short and they are struggling still just do as described once and go to worksheet if not previously done. If time is short and ss are comfortable, remove the sentences and ask them to come an choose the picture, and simply recite the corresponding sentence. If time is plentiful ;), go through both stages.

Flexible stage (12-17 minutes) • to complete what has yet to be, and/or focus on still challenging aspects

The worksheet might be done here, the sesame street video might be played here. If unused, the drawing of the vocabulary words on the BB could also be used. Plenty of ICQs should be asked during those activities, or as a review task for points.

ABCD Review (6-11 minutes) • Consolidate all TL since beginning

Drill all the different sounds learned so far: long A, short A, B, hard C, D. Use some activities from the phonics kids book as worksheets.
