Listening and Reading: KaChing! All About Money!

Description

In this lesson students will learn about collocations and speaking in the context of money and peoples opinion about money. The lesson starts with a youtube video illustrating the use of money. The class then proceeds to listen to another song about money and uses the fill in the blanks while listening to the song. (students guessed prior to listening to the song) During the lesson there will be a vocabulary list with specific words. Vocabulary words will have meanings explained to the students. Students will work in combination settings throughout the lesson. A HO is given towards the end of the lesson which demonstrates critical thinking and mingling activity.

Main Aims

  • SS will have practiced collocations and free speaking in the context of money and people's opinions about money.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To start the ss off in the lesson, i will play a youtube video and ask them to tell me what the video is about. SS will need to elicit the word KA-CHING after hearing the song.

Fill in the blanks (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

A HO from the SB will be distributed to the SS. They will listen to a song about money but before listening to the song they will be asked to fill in the blanks by guessing the correcting answer.

Vocabulary List (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

SS will focus on new words. A Handout will be given to the SS to help them understand the meanings of certain collocations.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Put the ss in pairs. Listen to the lyrics of the songs and decide which statement best summarizes the meaning of the song.

Discussion Time (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

SS will work as a group and complete the HO. SS must explain their answers to the follow up questions.
