Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Describing a special moment in the context of movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context, engage students and activate their schemata

T greets the Ss and asks them if they like going to the cinema. Then she tells them that she's going to show them some pictures and she wants the students to talk about them and describe the pictures in pairs. T models with the first picture. T will have WCFB and writes a couple of sentences on the board to elicit grammar form. In this stage I need WCFB as I need to board the examples and elicit grammar later.

Grammar presentation through elicitation (8-10 minutes) • To present grammar thriugh elicitation from Ss

T asks the students about the tense of the verbs and the time of the actions happening. The following CCQs are needed: 1. Is the verb past, present or future? It's present. 2. When is it happening? Now 3. Is it finished? No 4.Is it about every day? No Then draws the timeline and elicits the form of the verb (she may elicit the negative form as well). Then emphasizes on the contractions and does some drilling with word substitutions.

semi-controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • To help Ss get more accurate and fluent in using the grammar form

T puts the Ss in groups of 3/4 depending on the number of the Ss and gives a set of cut-up sentence cards to each group. Ss are going to mime the verbs/ sentences and their group mates should come up with the exact correct sentence and when they get the correct answer, they get that card. The winners will get a prize. Meanwhile T monitors and tries to jot down the errors she hears. They will have error correction as needed.

Freer Practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide Ss with more chance to have fluency on the grammar lesson

T regroups the Ss and gives instructions on the task and models. In this stage each student will imagine to be in a place and tells the group mates about the sentences. the group should guess the place. As feed back groups come up with the most interesting place!
