Description

In this lesson the students will mainly do the listening activity and practice their speaking skills. As a lead-in they will talk about kinds of food they like and then will transfer tot he the actual listening task. They will practice their 'listening for gist' and 'listening for specific details' skills, and as a wrap-up activity they will play the game 'Find someone who'.

Materials

Abc HO for the Listening 1

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about International restaurants in the context of food of different nationalities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in the game 'Find someone who' in the context of International food

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be shown the pictures of international foods. The T provides the personal example of what kind of food she likes. And ask couple of students to say what type of food they like.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be introduced the vocabulary that is used in the audio track and then students will be working in pairs and share with each other their opinion about what kind of food they like.

While-/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening tasks

The students will be a given a HO with the pictures of different kinds of food. They will listen to the dialog and should choose the kind of food that is being discussed in it. Ss compare the answers in pairs and then the volunteers come up to the WB and tick the picture of their answers. The pictures are the same as were provided in the lead-in stage

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

The students will be given a HO that contains 3 questions. They will listen to the dialog again and should provide the answer to the questions. The teacher might play the audio track twice. After they complete the task, the teacher does the WCFB.

Post-Listening (5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to what they have listened to and expand on what they've learned

The students will play the game 'Find someone who' that will develop their speaking skills and engage them by providing the variety of different questions. The teacher can monitor and participate as well and then elicit the mistakes and wrong pronunciation and as a FB to drill the pronunciation again and let the students do the self-correction task.
