Description

At the beginning of the lesson,learners will read an email and find out who the people from the email are. Then they listen to decide what the people in the listening are talking about. They match the questions and answers and listen again to check their answers. Finally they engage in an speaking activity as both the guest and the host to talk more and less formal ways of taking care of guests

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will divide the learners to groups and ask them to name some people they know and how they communicate. I ask them to name some of those people and put them on board and teach the word colleague in the process. Then I ask how they communicate by asking " Do you call them?" and "Do you send emails?" and put a picture of an email on the board to attract their attention.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

learners will read the email for gist and answer the questions and then check their answers within their groups. For feedback I ask them to come to board and write their answers below the pictures.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Learners will listen and check the items they hear in the conversation. Then, they match the questions with their answers on the board in form of a context between the groups. Finally they listen again to see if their answers are correct . For feedback I play the audio once more and say which group has the correct answers.

Clarification (4-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students will be given a handout which contains more formal or less formal offers. They complete the handout on their own and compare their answers with their partners. For feedback, I ask the class to read the answers aloud.

Controlled Practice (2-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I tell the learners that they are hosting Learners will think of ways to offer food, drinks to their guests and even ask them what they like to do .

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and practice

Learners sit in pairs and offer things to their guests. They change their rolls and do it again. I will monitor them and write down the errors. After they finish, I ask them to correct the errors I put on the board.

Game (3-6 minutes) • To engage in a fun activity about the concept of the lesson

The learners will engage in a game where they offer what is on the cards to their guests and respond back.
