Main Aims

  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about children in the context of school

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the picture of a young man. introduce him as your colleague who is sitting in a cafe now. ask Ss to look at the picture and guess what is he doing now?

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

demonstrate picture 2. Ask them to look at the picture and guess who are they? what are they doing? and where are they? then ask them to peer check their answers. distribute the text related to picture to check whether they guesses true?

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask one of the Ss to come to the board and write one of the new structures on the board. T does the CCQs to clarify the meaning. Then elicit the form and ask one of them to write it on the board. T clarifies other forms of language by making two groups of Ss which the first group makes the question form and the other group makes the negative form.Also T elicit the contracted forms and demonstrate the table of stative verbs in order to show Ss which verbs do NOT takes -ing form.After that T elicit the pronunciation from Ss and do a little repetition drill.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T give them instructions about the hand outs which he is intended to distribute then ICQ the instruction. After that T hand out the exercises which is detailed questions and ask Ss to read the text again and answer the questions. After that T ask Ss to peer check their answers. at the end Ss find correct answers on two sides of class walls.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T make S pairs and ask them to go near the windows of the class and describe the people's activity in the street using the present progressive tense.Error correction would be immediate. finally T writes the good language and appreciate them and also languages that need reformulation and ask Ss to reformulate them.
