In this lesson students will learn about some leasure activities through a listening task


Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about holiday activities in the context of Travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a debate in the context of Travel destination


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher greets the students, puts the students in groups and asks them what they usually do on holidays? Students talk for 4 minutes and come up with some ideas.

Vocaulary presentation (6-8 minutes) • Providing the students with some vocab that will be useful for talking about the context of travel

Ss sit in pairs and are provided with a set of cut-up pictures of activities and places and words. They have to mach the words with the pictures. Meanwhile teacher sticks the categorizing papers on the walls and asks the pairs to stick the cup-up words on the tables on the wall.

Pre-listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T sticks the 4 places' pictures on the board and asks Ss to guess the possible activities of each place and for FB each group jots their assumptions on the board.

While-Listening #1 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information in listening task

T asks the students to listen to the audio once and check it with their guesses on the board and check in pairs.

While-Listening #2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

T hands out a paper with some questions taken from the listening part. Asks them to read the sentences first and draws students' attention to understand which picture each sentences goes with. Then plays the audio track for the second time. Then students check their answers in pairs and the teacher provides them with the answers.

Post-Listening (14-17 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the listened part and expand on what they've learned

T divides the students in two groups, each group should brainstorm about the activities available in specific place (Thailand and Canada), then they will be paired and would be instructed to think they are 2 friends and want to go on a shared holiday, they need to convince each other with their places possible activities.
