Description

In this lesson, students are going to read about a couple`s travel blog to cairo in the past.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about a day in Cairo in the context of places

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of travel places

Procedure

lead in (2-3 minutes) • to engage the students into the topic

T enters the class ans asks about ss` Bayram and elicits what they did during the holiday. she elicits and writes the word `travel ` on the board. she brainstroms what cities ss like to travel.

Pre- Gist reading task (8-10 minutes) • to provide the chance for ss to predict and do the gist reading

she shows the ss a brochur and elicits what the word means. CCQs:Is it newspaper?( No) Is it big or small? ( small) T then shows a picture of a young people, sticks it on the board and name the charachters ( Mike and Ana). she then tells that this couple had a great three-day holiday in Cairo. T divides the board into three part ( May 5th, May 6th, May 7th) , hands each pair a brochure and asks them to guess what this couple did during these 3 days. ICQs: alone? with partner? write? speak? how much time? ( 5m) in case, ss don`t undrestand the instructions, T will demonstrate the activity with one student. Fb: each pair is asked to share their ideas with the next pair and after that, ss are asked to write their predictions on the board.

Gist reading (5-7 minutes) • to check ss` prediction

T shows the reading text to ss and gives them the instruction that they are supposed to do the reading very fast and check their prediction with the text. ICQs: Read fast or slow?( fast) alone? with partner?( alone) how much time? ( 3 min) FB: After 3 min, T pairs the ss to check their predctions. while monitoring, T finds out the problematic areas and as a wholeclass FB , those parts will be covered.

Scanning (5-7 minutes) • to proivde the chnace for ss to read for details

T shows the T/F HO and instructs that ss have 5 min to read and answer the questions individually. ICQs: alone or with partner? ( alone) How much time? ( 5m) FB : ss will check their answers in pairs and then correct answers will be stuck on the wall and ss need to stand up and check their answers. ( the correct answers include the reasons as well).

post reading activity (7-9 minutes) • to focus on new words and their meanings

Pairs will be changed based on diffrent colorsT and shows the HO and points out that ss need to match the meaning with the difinitons. T demonstrates the activity and sets the time limit of 5-7 minutes. FB: correct answers will be given to each pair.

Freer practice (10-12 minutes) • to provide an opportunity for ss to speak fluently

Ss will be set into gropus of 3/4 and they need to talk about the besat holiday they had and top five things they did. FB: ss will make new groups, one from each group and will report and decide on the best holiady. Errors will be written in a peice of paper and after finding out the best holiday, T write down the errors, asks them to find out the erros with their partners and finally, they will be checked with T.
