Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about quantifiers through guided discovery based on a reading text about men in the 12th century.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of quantifiers in the context of men in the 21st century

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Men in the 21st century

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T will set the context by showing picture, then ask SS why do you think this man might be called a 'new man' -T will ask SS about the things they think are typically females responsibilities. - SS will discuss in pairs or groups during "2 minutes"

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will ask SS to focus on the photo and ask why this man might be called a "new man". T will establish that a ("new man" is a man who believes that men and women should be free to do the same things, and who does tasks, such as housework) SS will say if there is a similar phrase in their language(s).

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T will give SS the text and ask SS to answer the exercise "B" individually, within 2 minutes. ICQ Are you going to work in group? (No) Do you have 3 or 2 minutes? (2) - SS will discuss there answer in in. - T will ask SS to read the article again and answer exercise "C" within 3 minutes. - SS will check their answers in PW, then T give the Answers key.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will ask SS CCQs to clarify the meanings of quantifiers CCQs 'Both' refers to one or two things? Two 'Every' refers "no one, neither of, none of'" refer to a zero quantity or more things or people? "to a zero quantity" T will elicit that we don't usually use double negative in English. Can we say "I don't like non of them" (No) Can we say " I don't like any of them" (Yes)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T will ask SS to work in pairs within 3 minutes. ICQ Are you going to work in group? "No" Are you going to answer the question by using the text? "Yes" - SS will answer exercise (4C) by using the text, check in group, then T will give the Answers key.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T will ask SS to work in pairs within 3 minutes. ICQ Are you going to work in group? "No" Are you going to answer the question by using the text? "Yes" - SS will answer exercise (4D) by using the text, check in group, then T will give the Answers key.
