Description

In this lesson, students will learn about making choices through listening and get familiar with some useful lexis. They will also improve their listening skill as well as speaking skill by personalising the context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greetings T will set the context by talking about a new job opportunity in Turkey. I can't make a good decision. Ss will give some ideas. Decide = make a decision /dɪˈsaɪd/ /dɪˈsɪʒ.ən/ noun Verb. Verb

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will show a picture of Derek and Dave. Ss will predict who they are and what they are talking about in pairs. T will elicit some key words: - colleague - decide/ make a decision Colleague /ˈkɒl.iːɡ/ Noun One of a group of people who work together

While-Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with a less challenging gist listening task

T will introduce the multiple choice HO and give instructions. ICQs if needed. Ss will listen to the track once and try to choose the best answer in small groups. WC feedback

While-Listening #2 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with a more challenging listening task (scanning)

T will introduce the gap-fill HO and give instructions. Ss will listen to the audio track once again. Ss will try to find the answers in pairs. Ss will write the answers on the board.

While-Listening #3 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with a task on focusing on specific details

T will introduce the task. Ss will answer the questions individually and then check in pairs. Ss will choose who will answer.

Post-Listening (15-17 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Before moving on to the production part of the lesson , T will introduce Predictions HO. Ss will try to figure the meanings out in pairs. Then T will introduce Discussion 1 HO. Ss will share ideas in small groups. T will monitor and give FB to each group. After 5 minutes T will introduce Discussion 2 HO Ss will share ideas in pairs. T will monitor and give feedback to pairs.
