Description

In this lesson the students will learn how to make questions with questions words, reflect previously learnt questions in the present and past as well as big numbers. They will start with pair activity on how the have spent their previous day, then they will go through a test part, to find out if they know the answers of the quiz. After, they will be introduced the teaching part of the lesson, where the teacher will clarify the question words and then do the test again in order to anchor the learnt material and to practice it speaking with the partner.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will start with a HO that will contain the questions and pics in front of each question. They should ask each other the questions and as FB the teacher shows big pictures of the words that were in the questions at the same time setting the context of the lesson.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The students will be given a HO with a Quiz test about interesting facts in the world. They should work in pairs and check each other answers. FB: The students will unfold the HO where they will see the answer key. To ask them how many correct answers they have. To encourage if they could give most of the answers. Again to repeat the question words.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

The teacher will clarify the question words asking the CCQs and clarifying the meaning, form and pronunciation. CCQs: 1. Who is your teacher? 2. What is the name of this school? 3.When did you come here? 4. Where is this school? 5. Why do you learn English? 6. How old are you? 7. How many students are in your class? 8. How much is the tea at this school? To pronounce the question words in a sentence, not to drill them separately.

Test #2 (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

The students will be given a HO with matching task. They should match the question words with the meaning, working in pairs. FB: One student will come up to the WB and write the answers, The teacher can then elicit the right answers in case they are wrong,

Semi-controlled speaking practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with semi-controlled practice of the target language

To give students papers and to ask them write the questions using the questions words that they have learnt. Then they should ask the partner the prepared questions, working in pairs. FB: the teacher monitors the speaking activity and then writes the mistakes on the WB and let the students do the self-correction.
