Description

In this lesson Ss will learn past perfect tense. The lesson starts with reminding students of a story from previous lesson that includes past perfect tense. This is followed by pair, group work, listening and speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer (2-3 minutes) • To attract students interest.

T starts the lesson with a story about Nick`s journey from the previous lesson. T reminds the students of the Nick`s story. Then t asks "Where was he at the beginning of the story? Where had he begun his motorbike journey? Where did he finish his motorbike journey? and What did he do when his motorbike broke down in Denver again. T elicits answers. After that, T draws a line on the board and adds dot for each city that Nick traveled. Then T asks "Where was he at the beginning of the story?, Where had he begun his motorbike journey?, Where did he finish his motorbike journey?. T elicits answers.

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To lead Students to the past perfect tense.

T asks Ss to look at the sentences on the paper and tells them you`re going to see some sentences and blanks. Each sentence tells what happened in Nick`s story. You can use one name of the city more than one. T asks "What are you going to write?", "What are the names of the cities?", "Can you write one name of the city more than one?", Then T gets them as pairs and gives HO that includes some sentences . Ss complete the Ex2 on page:73. T asks them to check their answers with their partner. After that, T gives answer key (as slide or HO). WC FEEDBACK.

Presentation- MFP (8-9 minutes) • To focus the students attention on target languageand to make the form meaningful.

T asks Ss to look at the line on the board and asks them to tell what happened in each city. Ss answers and T writes what happened next to each city on the line. Then T asks Ss to look at sentence in Ex-2a. Next, T asks, "Which things happened first? Had these things happened before or after Nick sat at the side of the road and wondered what to do next. T elicits answers. Next, T writes the form. eg. Nick sat at the side of the road and wondered what to do next because............and T elicits a sentence from the Ss (he had dreamt of crossing the United States, or he`d given up his job, sold his car and set off the journey of his dreams .) T asks Ss "Which form do you see, what is HAD and where should we use HAD, after HAD are we gonna use infinitive verb or PAST PARTICIPLE V3, have you seen the contracted form He`d of HE HAD and T elicits answers. .After that, T draw a time line and shows Ss past perfect Form and ask them why we use this form, T gets them to drill for pronunciation.

Controlled practice (5-6 minutes) • To help learners to identify past perfect tense

T shows HO and tells Ss there is a picture and blanks after the sentences on Ex-3. Then, T tells them there is a man whose name is Michael. He goes to Moscow for his journey. Next, T asks Ss to look at this picture, imagine a story about Michael`s journey to Moscow, and complete each of the sentences with a past perfect sentences. In this Ex we are going to find what had happened before in te past in his story. After that, T asks, Are you going to complete the Ex with past tense or past perfect tense?" and T elicits answer. Finally, T gets them as pairs and asks them to work with their partners, and gives Ss HO. Ss works together, T monitors Ss, and helps if it is needed. T elicits answers. Feedback: WCFB

Semi controlled practice (6-7 minutes) • To practice for past perfect tense with a dialog

T asks Ss to look at the answer paper and tells them there is a story about two pilots. Then, T tells them there are some blanks on the paper and "please fill in the blanks with the correct verb form eg. PAST, PAST PROGRESSIVE and PAST PERFECT verb. T tells Ss, "We are going to do this Ex to understand the difference between PAST and PAST PERFECT tense Then, T gets them as pairs and asks them to study with their partner and fill in the planks with the correct verb form. Then T asks, "Are you going to fill in the blanks with only PAST PERFECT verbs?" T gives HO and Ss fill in the blanks with their partner. T monitors Ss. Next, T assigns numbers for the Ss and tells them there are two answer paper STUDENT-A and STUDENT-B. Some of you have STUDENT-A and some of you have STUDENT-B. Each answer paper has same story but they have different blanks.Then T asks Ss find your new partner with the same number and read your story to your new partner, check and match your answer together to correct your answers. After that, T asks Ss, "Are you going to read and match your answer or just going to check your answer?" Ss find their new partner, read their story and match it together. T monitors Ss . T gives FB.

Listening (6-7 minutes) • To make students ready for next speaking Ex.

T tells ss to look at the picture on HO and then tells Ss, " You are going to hear talking about Suzi`s visit to this place in the picture. Then T tells “There are some questions and some information next to each question on this paper. Then T asks Ss to listen to Suzi`s talking about a journey and cross out the wrong information in each of her answers. Next, T asks Ss, "Are you going to listen to conversation about two pilots or talking about a journey?, T plays recording and Ss listen to it. After that, "T asks Ss to listen to recording again and correct the information and check their answer. Ss listen to recording and check their answers. T shows a slide or gives answer key for FEEDBACK.

Speaking (5-6 minutes) • To get students to prictise their speaking

T tells a journeyabout himself and tries to use past perfect verb to encourage his Ss to use. Then, T gets Ss as groups for speaking activity. Next T asks Ss to asks some questions about themselves from listening Ex, and asks them use some phrases from listening EX-eg "What to say and how to say. After that, T asks Ss " Are you going to talk about teacher or yourself?", "Are you going to use phrases from listening Ex?" Ss starts to speak about their journey. T monitors for delayed correction. After that T writes some their mistakes on the WB and WC FEEDBACK

Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To correct students` error during the speaking activity..

T monitors Ss without interference and take some notes .At the end of the task teacher will write some errors on the WB as true or false exercise and ask students to answer it.
