Description

This is an integrated reading and speaking lesson in the context of super kids. It introduces a number of two genius kids with a good talent and focuses the student to read for details

Materials

Abc New headway Elementary student course book. Liz and john soar

Main Aims

  • To give students practice the integrated skills of intensive reading for detail and speaking for fluency in the context of super kids

Subsidiary Aims

  • To promote or make students to notice the importance on spoken language and to become more aware of the way we can use language or spoken word to express our message to people. To give students opportunity to practice speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the topic

Show Students some printed pictures of different kids with different activities showing talent on what they know how to do. Ss work in pairs and discuss what they have in common. Teacher monitor attentively to any interesting points Ss for feedback and elicit making speeches. Also some CCQs & FB questions e.g. Are they special kids? yes What makes them special? What do they have in common?

Reading/Speaking (7-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the practical reading text and also prepare them for speaking making it accessible

Focus student on the text in task 2. And student wok in group (A & B) A - Read about little miss Picasso. B - Read about the new mozart. Give student some few time to read through the test passage in their various group and answer the questions. Teacher ask some CCQs question to check understanding in each group and to get feedback e.g. (A GROUP) (B GROUP) How old is she? 13 What does he do? painting Why is she special? How old is he? 10 What does she do? painting. Why is she special?

While-Reading/Speaking # 1 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with detail information and speaking for fluency tasks.

Teacher: Pair students up with someone from the other group and tell them about their story and listen to the other one. Using the answers they derived from the group reading. Give Ss time to interact and speak for a while.Then get some feedback from student by asking questions.e.g. (TASK 4 & 5 from the text) What do you think is the same about Alexandra and Lukas? what is different too. You Can also ask them to discuss with partner.

While-Reading/Speaking #2 (6-9 minutes) • To provide students with more details, and to practice more speaking for fluency and accuracy.

(From text task 6) Teacher put students to work in pairs, then 1 student becomes A and the second student becomes B. Ss - A is an interviewer Ss - B is Alexandra or lukas. Student should ask and answer question using the question giving to them by the teacher and later switch over.e.g. B becomes A and A becomes B for more clarification and understanding.

Post-Reading/Speaking (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher put student work in pair to look at the text again and notice if the kids in the lesson were really gifted and good at what they do. Monitor to get FB and share interesting ideas.
