Description

To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary related to years and what people liked when they were young.The lesson begins with clarification of years and related numbers and an activity to practice listening.Subsequently, Learners will learn new vocabulary to engage in an speaking activity about their childhood favorites.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I show some pictures from my childhood years and childhood favoritesto to students .

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I talk about my childhood years and my favorites to students and ask their favorites. I introduce and pre-teach the word "favorite".

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I highlight the years and check if the students know the numbers or not. we do exercise 2.24 (part 1) and students repeat the years, chorally and individually.

Clarification (4-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

learners do exercise 2.24 (part 2) with their partners. When finished , I ask all learners to say the years corally. Next I show pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Jodie Foster, Clint Eastwood, Orlando Bloom and Scarlett Johansen and Write on the board " When were they born. I demonstrate how they should do the task and then play the audio. Learners listen to the audio from 2.25 and try to come up with answers on their own. Then they listen to audio again and check their answers with their partners and I have them come to the board and write the answers. At last the students repeat the sentences with their partners.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

learners listen and read the text. Then they answer the questions from the handout and check their answers with their partners and finally I ask them to say the answers together.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students write the same paragraph about them selves and talk about it to their partners.

Free Practice (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

learners report what they heard from their partners in the previous practice to a new partner. For feedback, I put common errors on board and ask learners to correct them.
