Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice in the context of places in a town.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice using new vocabulary in the context of places in a town.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will see 3 pictures on the board and they will say some of the things they can see in the pictures. T will try to elicit as many words as possible.

Pre-Listening 1 (4-5 minutes) • To pre-teach let them identify new vocabulary

Students will be given a check list and they will be supposed to check the items they hear as the teacher speaks about their city Istanbul.

Pre-Listening 2 (10-15 minutes) • To pre-teach some of the new vocabulary

Students will see some words on the board beside the pictures. T will check if they know the words or not and introduces the new ones for them. First the meaning ( CCQs ) and then the pronunciation. Then students will play the vocabulary game of snap. ( modelling, ICQs)

Gist listening (4-5 minutes) • To let them get the general idea of the recording

Students will listen to the recording and try to match the conversations with the picture. Then they can check thier answers in pairs.

Detailed Listening (4-5 minutes) • To let them listen for specific information

Students will listen again and answer the questions in ex.4. They then check their answers in pairs.

Post-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To provide a controlled practice about the recording

Students will see the sentences from the recording and the pictures on the board and try to match. The answers will be written on the board by the students after checking in pairs.

Freer practice (8-12 minutes) • To let the students use the vocabulary in their speech

Students will think about their neighborhood and interview each other about the items they have in their neighborhood writing down the names.
