Description

-In this lesson sts will be reviewing future forms and they will be discussing a get together event that they are likely to attend this weekend as a lead-in. -The lesson will start with a personal story telling of what the teacher will be doing this weekend and continue with a brief verbal questioning of what the sts will be doing in the weekend. -They will then do a matching exercise where they will discuss in pairs to determine which people will take part in which events. -The students will then participate in a small group exercise where they are going to place the correct flash cards underneath the verbs given on the WB. -In small groups they will later discuss a memorable get-together that they have been to and pick the most interesting one to read out loud to the whole class. -On the board there will be 3 sentence bubbles and the students will be asked to make a list of ways people can do them in pairs (seating plan may be changed if necessary) and compare with each other. -After that they will read a text about an article called "Getting together 21st-century style" and answer the questions written on the WB. -They will do a brief vocabulary exercise related to exercise 3 in the reading section. -Finally they will do a brief discussion in small groups using the vocabulary they have learned.

Main Aims

  • To work on receptive skills mainly reading.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading and speaking practices in the context of the future forms.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • For setting the context and make the sts curious

The sts will be told a personal plan that will happen over the weekend and then they will be asked about their plans so that they will use the TL and also build a connection with the context of the lesson.

Pre-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare the sts both for the text while eliciting grammar and vocabulary

They will do a matching exercise where they will discuss in pairs to determine which people will take part in which events. Due to some events having more than one answer they will be a little bit more challenged compared to regular matching exercises with one possible answer.

Pre-Reading 2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide sts with a clear understanding on which verb to use for each event and to further prepare them for the listening

The students will then participate in a small group exercise where they are going to place the correct flash cards underneath the verbs given on the WB. This will also be a good mingle exercise which will be a FB among the sts.

Pre-Reading 3 (4-5 minutes) • To wrap up and to prepare the sts for the next stage which is reading.

In small groups they will later discuss a memorable get-together that they have been to and pick the most interesting one to read out loud to the whole class.

Reading Warm-up (4-5 minutes) • To prepare the students for the text, elicit ideas that might be found in the text

On the board there will be 3 sentence bubbles and the students will be asked to make a list of ways people can do them in pairs (seating plan may be changed if necessary) and compare with each other. May present ideas to the class after the pair work Questions on the WB: -Get to know new people -Get in touch with old friends -Meet a future partner

While Reading (9-10 minutes) • To work on receptive skills via reading

After that they will read a text about an article called "Getting together 21st-century style" and answer the questions written on the WB. to explain how people get together and what kind of people are suitable for each way. This will be an open exercise, sts will be able to call out answers.

Vocabulary Exercise (6-7 minutes) • To work on vocabulary and meaning

They will do a brief vocabulary exercise related to exercise 3 in the reading section via "The Hangman" game on the WB. and do a brief vocabulary exercise to check pronunciation and meaning.

Post-Vocabulary (2-3 minutes) • To check if the meaning is clear and to practice its usage.

Finally they will do a brief discussion in small groups using the vocabulary they have learned.
