Description

In this lesson students learn criminal vocabulary by reading humorous news. This lesson starts with a short video about funny news. This is followed by individual, pair and group activities that students read and speak.

Main Aims

  • To read, speak about criminal events.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To attract students interest and lead them to the reading.

T shows Ss some pictures about humorous news which will be related to the context and talks about these pictures to set the context. Elicits idea from the students.

Pre-reading (4-5 minutes) • To teach the students key vocabulary for the comprehension of the context

T elicit the meaning of some key words by showing and miming. Ss try to guess the meaning of these words. Teacher asks CCQs and tries to get them to understand the meaning. Then, T writes form and gets them to pronounce of these words.

Gist reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with the main idea

T get Ss as a group and give them HO. T asks Ss to match the headlines with the news stories and set the time as 3 minutes.T use ICQ. Ss match them. Next, T asks one student in each group to write the answer on the WB. Ss write the answer on the WB. WC feedback.

While Reading (4-5 minutes) • To get Sutudents read the text carefully in details.

T gives Ss HO and asks them to read paragraph. Ss reads text individually.

While Reading (3-4 minutes) • To get students to scan the text to answer the questions

T gets Ss as pair and asks them to fill in the gaps in Ex-2 by scanning the text and check their answers with their partner. T uses ICQ. Ss answer the questions. Ss check their answers with a new partner. After that, T shows the answer key using a slide.

While Reading (4-5 minutes) • To get students to scan the text to answer the questions

T gets Ss as pair and asks them to fill in the gaps in Ex-3 by scanning the text and check their answers with their partner. T uses ICQ. Ss answer the questions. Then, T asks Ss to find new partner and check their answer with a new partner. Ss check their answers with a new partner. After that, T shows the answer key using a slide.

While Reading (5-6 minutes) • To get students to focus on more comprehensive understanding.

T get Ss as groups and gives them HO.T asks them to read the questions and answer them as a group. T uses ICQ. Ss answers these questions as a group. Then T asks half of the students in each group to change their group with the other group and asks them to check their answers. T shows the answer key by using a slide.

post-reading (6-7 minutes) • To get students to practice speaking about humurous crime news

T get Ss as groups and asks them to choose story which is most interesting from the text. Then,T asks Ss to tell their groups the most interesting story and explain the reason T uses ICQ.Every Ss in the groups talk about these stories. T monitors Ss and take notes.

Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To correct students` error during the speaking activity..

T monitors Ss without interference and take some notes .At the end of the task teacher will write some errors on the WB as true or false exercise and ask students to answer it.
