Procedure (27-43 minutes)
1) I elicit some examples of work and social invitations (Would you like to come to the cinema tomorrow evening? Can you join us for lunch today? ) 2) I elicit some convincing excuses involving previous arrangements (I’m sorry, I’m meeting my boss. I’d love to, but I’m playing basketball with my friends). 3) I say some new invitations and ask the students to try new excuses. (Would you like to have a picnic with us on Sunday? Could you meet me at my office tomorrow?) 4) Learners play this game with their partners 5)I show a picture a smiling man with thought bubbles over his head. In the bubbles, I write some notes about what he is going to do later ( walk into town, buy presents, eat at McDonalds, go to a birthday party at a night club and take a cab home). 6)I ask the students why he is smiling and tell them he is thinking about his afternoon and tonight and looking forward to it .I ask the learners if they can say what he is thinking and elicit the sentences( I am going to walk into town, I am going to buy presents, etc..) and get learners to practice them. 7)I ask the students to say what they are going to do tonight and guess what I am going to do.
Students read the text and correct the malformed verbs. They then check their answers with their group

As feedback I will discuss the rules with them by asking them to explain why and how they have to such discoveries.
Students will do the exercise on the handout check their answers with their partners.
Learners will ask and answer the questions from the previous exercise with a partner.
