Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice in the context of The Cool Cat story

Procedure

Entrance (3-5 minutes) • Greet - make sure they know the T's name and country of origin, as well as basic questions

Ask the ss to say the T's name, within a complete sentence. Ask one to write it on the board. Repeat with country of origin. Use this stage to explain the sticker trade system

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Find Ss whose names start with the letter C. Play the Bounce Patrol video

Highlighting (7-9 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Proceed through the PPt, to focus on the different words and concepts of the Cool Cat story, eliciting when possible. Emphasis is put on the letter C at the beginning of words and the hard "c" sound.

Controlled Practice (Hot and Cold game) (8-10 minutes) • Provide ss practice with the hard "c" sound

The T places a random flashcard at the back, comes back to the front saying the word quietly at first then louder and louder as he approaches the flashcard. The T then goes back to the front and asks the ss to do as he did, maybe going backwards a few times to test the ss understanding One st chooses the flashcard to be used through a lucky dip. The whole class identifies the word out loud. A volunteer is chosen to go outside. Then the ss choose a hiding place for the FC. The T allows the volunteer back in.

Controlled and Semi-controlled Practice (13-16 minutes) • To provide further practice and variety

Demonstrate the worksheet procedure on the blackboard, and orally. The T walks around the class to check ss understanding and provide help. He also uses the time to distribute stickers to the meritorious ss. Feedback is done with individual ss during the task as well as as a WC following the task.

Cooldown (Sesame street video) (5-6 minutes) • To provide students further exposure and a reward for a good lesson's work

Goes without saying I guess

Extra task (2-5 minutes) • fun - further exposure

Ask volunteer to ss to came and draw the words learned earlier on the BB. If this task is needed, it should be used before the cooldown video.
