Main Aims

  • To provide students with vocabulary in a context of abstract nouns about priorities in life through a HO.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice through drilling and pronunciation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher writes on board A Noun -Concrete -Abstract and ask students What is concrete noun? Is table a concrete noun? What do you think? Is my bracelet a concrete noun? What do you think? Is my grandmother a concrete word? Teacher write those words one by one and gets the answers for each word.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students make a circle. Pin the words to their shirts. Aim will be to personalise the words. The teacher makes the whole class to say the words out loud but in a circle with WC (enough repetition should be done with pointing out the stress on words) The meaning of the words will be asked to the WC one by one. Teacher tells the first student carrying the word to touch his/her nose if she/he doesn't know what it is. Then asks the whole class to sneeze if anyone knows the meaning. Demonstration for the next activity: Out of 20 words one volunteer is going to choose 10 words important in his/her life and this time they will pronounce the words. The she/he reduces it to 1 word. This is followed by the next exercise. The rest of the class will be doing the same in HOs.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give handouts. Circle the 10 important things. Then 5 then reduce it to 1.

Vocabulary Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

This is an activity where students can test each other and correct their peers. -Switch the papers with your partner.
