Description

In this lesson, ss will mainly practice vocabulary, speaking and listening.Ss will learn new vocabulary related to tools used for babies. (Nappy, bib, baby seat...) It is also an opportunity for some SS who already knows some of the vocabulary will reinforce their vocabulary. A phrase "bringing up a child" will be elicited, it is followed by pre-teach vocabulary to set the lesson context and engage students to this topic.The SS will talk about their personal experiences.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Commando Dad in the context of Family

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice some words related with bringing up a little child.To give Ss freer speaking practice for using vocabulary related to life events to help them their spoken fluency

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher asks some CCQs about topic. T wants Ss to think about these questions.Teacher's aim here is to activate their schemata, to expose their experience. Is gossip bad? if YES, WHY? At the same time, T gives some clues if any of Ss has a difficulty.T tells an example sentence to encourage his Ss. And speaking activity goes on like that. T asks Ss to complete the sentences like: If you are a woman..... if you are a man.... (English File Intermediate 3.edition p29 4 SPEAKING)

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Stage 1: Pre-Teach vocabulary Stage1 Teacher shows some photos related with topics as powerpoint presentation. Teacher asks Ss to discuss about an each photo. At the same time, teacher uses CCQs to find out the meaning of the target vocabulary by using photos. Stage 2 T gives pronouncation of the words, repeats with WC. T elicits the target vocabulary and don't write on the board until Ss use them. Stage 3 T asks some pre-reading questions. Ss will focus on the questions.T asks them to guess what the article is about.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

WHILE READING READING FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION Stage 1 The Ss will be given a worksheet including three passages taken out of the text. Before this activity T asks Ss to close their books. There will be 3 groups. First, each group scan their own passage and try to find out the missing word for each blank. Ss have 3 minutes. Ss should be able to decide which word is correct to fill in the blanks. After completed, Ss checks their answers if they are correct or incorrect as a WC. T monitors them and also quides if needed. At the end, Ss open their book and check their answers in the whole article.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Stage 2 Ss will do the activity as a WC. T here is a guider at the back of the class (ıf necessary) (English File Intermediate Third edition)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

POST READING Ss work in two groups. One group writes 2 incorrect statements about the text. The other group writes 2 incorrect statements about the text. Ss prepare their own material within a time limit. When they finish the group members swap their worksheets to answer. Controversial points could be cleared up with the guidance of the teacher if needed. (Before beginning to this activity, T shows a sample to the Ss about how to do.) CONTINGENCY The teacher asks some questions about bringing up a child and wants Ss to share their personal experiences.
