Description

In this lesson, students learn the meaning, form and pronunciation of items of clothes and colours. This is followed by a controlled practice i.e. a matching exercise. Ss will also look at the use of "favorite" in questions and a semi-controlled speaking practice will be executed to prepare students for the final free speaking practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of items of clothes, colours and the use of "favorite" in questions.

  • To provide Ss with semi-controlled and controlled speaking practices of the TL

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

▪T shows students a picture of her holding a suitcases and elicits one example of lexis from them. T will write on board the word "CLOTHES" and drill it for students. ▪Ss then work in groups and try to guess what items of clothes are there inside the suitcase that are worn by men and women.. Instructions: Each group will write on this paper what clothes are there in suitcases for men and women. ICQS: So, what will you write on these papers Clothes Are u going to only write clothes for men? NO, women too

Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

▪Ss hang their papers of the board under each picture and T introduces TL through realia if possible plus pictures on the WB while taking into consideration what Ss have already elicited and what problems they are having in pronouncing the TL. ▪Choral and individual pronunciation drills are to take place after listening to CD Track 6.14 ▪Repetition of TL, using flashcards on the board.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

▪Individual matching activity. Instructions: Match these words with these pictures ▪Ss check in pairs. ▪Answer keys to be given to Ss. ▪WCFB if needed.

Useful Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

▪T elicits from students colours and drills wrong pronunciations if needed then introduces the word order of a black dress. ▪S states what do they like to wear more often and which colors do they prefer and T introduces the use of "favourite" in questions. .

Productive Task(s)/Feedback and Error Correction (22-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills and provide feedback on students' production & use of language

Semi-controlled practice on "what/who's your favourite...?": ▪A WC mingle activity where each S asks everyone else "what's your favorite /colour//movie? / who's your favorite actor/singer? ▪T monitors and WCFB if needed. Free Practice of items of clothes and colours: ▪Ss will be divided into groups and T will elicit from them that they are now in Koton store (picture on WB) and that each group is going to a different occasion (Party/work/ picnic in the rain) and need some clothes for each purpose. Pairs inside each group (preferably male and female) will role-play the context of a customer and a shop assistant. T will first demonstrates the role-play with one of the students. Group A with the aim of going to work: Shop Assistant: Good morning, Customer: Good morning... I want a red jumper, a blue skirt and red shoes. ▪swap pairs and if time swap occasions. .T monitors and CWFB/Errors Correction if needed.
