Teaching Practise 2 - Definite and Indefinite Articles
Upper Intermediate level


In this lesson the Ss will talk about the pic which shows the children are chewing. they will discuss in pairs whether chewing is good or bad or more it depends on their ideas. In Grammar they will revise their knowledge about the Articles ( a-an-the / zero article ) . the subject is not new to them so just giving the details to make them remember.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of the Articles in the context of Chewing gum and a general knowledge quiz

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about general knowledge


warm up (3-5 minutes) • to engage ss in the lesson.

T will show a pic to the SS and make them talk about what they see in the pic in pairs. ICQ will be asked. : * Are you going to talk about the children? * Are you going to write anything? T will monitor them whilst they are talking. Answer their question is asked. T will listen to them but not one by one. maximum 3 answers. T will give the SS some words and they will decide they belong to according to the grammar point. They will put them on the board where they are used,

Presentation (8-10 minutes) • Giving the Grammar Part

T will start to give Grammar part by checking if they remember the important points of The Articles. It is not new to them so it is an advantage for teacher's timing. T will talk about the differences between A-An-The / Zero Article by eliciting the answers from the students. Doing Ex 2 is the starter part of doing grammar exercises. By remembering the usage of the articles and by teachers correct instructions they will circle or underline the correct alternative. Analysis part which has the grammar part of the subject will be told by the teacher. The important points will be explained and matched if they think the same while they are doing ex.2. In the 2nd part of the Analysis part 1 the SS will give more examples for the situation which are written. Practise Part: In ths part the SS will underline the Zero Article of Ex.2 in the first part. There is also a General Knowledge Quiz on page 67. SS will do it first by their own ideas. Analysis Part 2 will be given by the teacher shortly. 141. They will study in pairs. A/ B group. They have

LÄ°stening Part: After they finish The quiz they will listen to the correct answer. This listening part's aim is only checking.

controlled practise (5-8 minutes) • to check their knowledge about the subject

Controlled Practise : T will give the SS another exercise which is on the book pages 139 / 141. In the last part of the lesson SS will be given an exercise and they will do it in pairs. they will ask and answer the questions. T will divide the pairs like A is going to do page 139 and B is going to do page 141.

Freer Practise (8-10 minutes) • to use the articles in the correct place

Freer Practise : T will give SS some exercises from the workbook about the subject. If time allows they will do it in the class if not it is going to be homework for them but T will give the answer key to check.
