Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the picture in their books and ask them where do you think the people are? what do you thing is happening?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

there are just 4 new words that they need to understand the listening and do the task. I will introduce the words and ask them to match the words with their definintion. then I will drill the words and show the spelling. I have 5 different pictures to make the flow of the listening clear for the student. All the pictures will have a number from 1 to 5. I will give each Ss 2 or 3 pictures e.g. pictures 1 and 4 for a student and pictures 2,3,5 for the other student. Then they try to find their partner by grouping the pictures from 1 to 5 with their partner. There is a beginning of a newspaper article in their books they will read it and try to put the pictures into order to guess what will happen in the listening.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

First of all they will listen the audio to check if their guesses write or wrong. they will listen for gist.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

there are 5 multiple choice questions about the listening. Firstly the students will read the question and the teacher will check if they understand or not the questions. The students will listen for the first time the students will check their answers with their pairs. the teacher ask students to listen one more time to check their answers and take small notes how they get the answer. then the teacher will take the answers by nominating students. If there is still problems with the answers the teacher will play the audio by pausing it for each question's answer.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher will ask student to work in pair and want them to talk about one of their favourite childhood photos and guide them with some questions e.g. Do you have a favourite photo of yourself as a child? Who took it? What was happenning when they took it? What were you wearing? Why it is special for you?
