Description

In this lesson, ss will be engaged in receptive skill development by listening for the gist and specific information related to weekend activities The lesson starts with vocabulary revising and teaching. This is followed by a short speaking activity about the things the ss do at the weekend (go out or stay at home). After that there are two listening tasks focusing on listening for gist and specific information. Finally there is a guided speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of weekend activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T asks learners what days are the weekend in Turkey.She teaches what stay and go out means by using gesture She tells sts that she stays at home at the weekend and ask what they do (stay at home or go out).

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The T gives a vocabulary worksheet to revise some phrases (listen to music, write email, phone friends/family, watch TV, have lunch out, go to the cinema, go to a party). The ss do it individually and then they check their answers with their partner. After that the T gives WC FB. After that she teaches some other phrases by using PPT (cook meals, work(v.), meet friends, go shopping, go for a walk).

While-Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher asks sts to listen to three different texts and match the text with three people (Connie, André and Olga). She starts with the first one, checks the asnwers and then goes on with the other two. The ss check their answers with their partner. After that the T gives WC FB. They listen to the text twice.

While-/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The sts listen to the text again and this time they asnwer T/F questions. Then they check their answers with their partner. After that the T tells them to go out and check their answers from the written texts on the wall.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The T gives the sts a quiz about the things they do at the weekend. The sts answers the quiz on their own and then work in pairs. One pair asks the questions in the quiz and the other answers according to her/him. Later they cahnge the roles.
