In this session students revise question forms in the context of talking about their family in the present and past. They also practice writing formal and informal emails.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Writing three facts about myself on the board. Invite students to ask questions to find out further information about the facts.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To assess students' language and speaking skills, as well as their use of question forms.

To elicit some ideas for questions they might ask. Students then work in pairs to ask many questions as they can.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students match the questions and answers alone, then check their answers in pairs. To elicit the correct answers and check the meaning of new words.

Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to discuss the topic

Asking students if they know much about their family history, or if they would like to go. Give students time to read the text quickly and check their predictions.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Put students into small groups to discuss the questions. Monitor and provide any vocabulary students need. In feedback, nominate students from each group to tell class their opinions.

Language Practice (6-8 minutes) • To evaluate students' listening comprehension.

Introduce the topic of the listening and check students understand what they have to do.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Ask students to look at the example questions 1-6. Check the meaning of auxiliaries, prepositions and subject by eliciting examples.

Feedback • To evaluate students' overall performance

To provide instructions in order to develop their current knowledge.
