Description

In this lesson the Ss will read a text about "getting angry". Before reading the text as a pre reading activity they will discuss some questions about anger. As a while reading activity they read for specific infromation to answer and discuss the questions according to the text. Meaning check activity will be followed by a post reading activity where the Ss work in groups and answer some questions like "Are there anger types, differences between men and women, controlling anger."

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practise through a text about types of anger,dealing with anger,differences between men and women in the context of getting angry.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide semi-controlled writing activity to define the anger with their own sentences. To encourage Ss to speak for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sticks some pictures on WB with different facial expressions. T asks Ss to tell what they can see on pictures to try to elicit the word anger, angry or getting angry. T ask some question such as what makes you angry, do you get angry quickly, Are you short tempered to encourage the Ss to talk about the topic.

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will compare the opinions with their opinion and try to find out if they are the same or not. Ss work in pairs and scan to compare the answers. If they have any problems about the vocabulary they will underline the unkown words to discuss after scanning.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading

Ss find words or phrases in the reading text which tell them that the statements are true. Ss underline the phrases in the text. They will compare their answer in pairs. Monitor- pay attention that they are on task and underline a phrase not the whole paragraph.

While-Reading #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

Ss read the exract on the pages 157,159,163. T divides the class in three group. Group A will look at Activity Bank 3 on page 157 to define "the types of anger". Group B will look at Activity Bank 8 on page 159 to write the differences between men and women. Group C will look at Activity Bank 15 on page 163 to list the some facts about how to deal with anger. If less Ss come they will work with their neighbour. Monitor and get FB.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide a writing activity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T swop the groups and ask them to change their working partners and sit in the other group to write some sentences by using their own sentences. In their word the Ss will describe different anger personality types, explain how or if anger afffects men and women differentl, give advice on how to deal with anger. Monitor while the Ss working together and if they have any doubts get a general FB
