Description

In this lesson , students will learn future tense ( be+ going to ) in the context of arrangements and plans for the future. They will be introduced to the TL through a reading text about my sister and children's plans for the weekend , sts will highlight the form of the future in the text , then the Tl will be clarified through eliciting the form from the sts. After that, sts will practice the use of future tense through controlled, semi- controlled and freer activities

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice using discussions in the context of future plans
  • To provide writing practice of a of schedules and plans in the context of future arrangements and plans

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the lesson

T shows plans for people's weekend . T draws sts attention to the date of the schedule which is four days ahead. T elicits the use of the schedule and the time of writing plans in the schedule

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a reading text

Sts read texts about my sister and my children's plans for the weekend and decide if the sentences are ( true or false ) , Answer key is given to the sts after Pw checking questions

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Sts look at the reading texts and underline the verbs in them . I expect Sts to discover the form of ( be+ going to + infinitive ) to refer to the future .

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T asks sts to remember sentences from the reading text , Writes them on the WB using colors to highlight the differences. _ T elicits the use of future form to describe fixed plans or arrangements in the future and focus on the difference of the( verb to be) form with different pronouns ( I, we, he ,she , it ,they ). _ T asks CCQs to check sts understanding . 1- Do these sentences speak about the present/ past/ future ? Future . Did I plan to do this before or not ? Yes _ T draws a time line on the WB and ask sts to mark where the actions take place _ T writes the form of the future on the WB : Sub + verb to be + going to + infinitive _ T drills the pronunciation on fingers

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To get sts practice using the TL

T gives sts a HO exercise . Sts will be using (be+going to+ infinitive ) with different pronouns using the verbs given between brackets. Sts check answers PW. T gives answer key for CQS

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To get sts to practice speaking fluency using the TL

T tells sts that they are going to get a verb ,and when they hear the verb , they should stand up and say a sentence about the verb using the form of be+ going to + infinitive . T demonstrates the activity and gives the verbs to the sts to think about a sentence for a minute . T corrects mistakes if any .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To get students to freely practice speaking fluency using the TL.

T asks sts to write four sentences about Eid al Adha ( Qurban Bayram ) and speak about their plans in it . Sts write their plans individually then they speak about them to his / her partner , (PW). After that T regroups the sts and asks him to speak about his l her partner's plans to another partner

Delayed Error Correction (1-3 minutes) • To clarify some mistakes for accuracy using be+going to + inf

T writes the notes on WB and correct them WC
