In this lesson, the sts will practice the appearance adjectives. First the sts will be tested, the words will be elicited from them, The sts will focus on the meaning, form and pronuncition. The sts will practice the TL throughout the lesson by doing controlled, semi-controlled and freer activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of appearance adjectives in the context of describing people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide semi-controlled writing practice of appearance adjectives in the context of describing people
  • To provide controlled speaking practice of appearance adjectives in the context of describing people


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The sts will look at a picture of a "girl" on the board, (a picture of my friend).The T will elicit the adjectives from the sts, by asking is she beautiful? Yes. Is she tall? Yes. Is she short? No.Tall, is it an action? No. Is it a noun? No, Does it say how she look? Yes. Is it adjective? Yes. What other adjectives do you know? S1 young, S2 old etc.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw the students' attention to the TL (appearance adjectives)

The sts will be given inctructions to read the text and to underline adjectives. T will demo it. The sts will do peerchecking. WC FB, T will ask S1 which one is adjective in this sentence, S2 and S3.The sts will be given the answer-key.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The T will ask the sts to give one sentence from the text. elicit the meaning, form and pronunciation of the adjective from the sts by asking questions (the T can show pictures of some adjectives if the meaning isn't clear) Is it an action? Is it a noun? is it how do we look? What is before adjective? What is after adjective? the T will mark the stress, model and drill.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The sts will work in pairs, they will point to the picture of a person and tell the adjective which describes him/her in pairs. Error correction.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The sts will be shown a HO and given instructions to fill in the gaps using adjectives in the box, there are extra adjectives. S1 will come to the board in order to demo the task. The sts will do peerchecking, S2 will come to the board and write his sentence. S3 and S4. FB, error correction.

Freer Practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

the sts will work alone, they will write 4 sentences about someone in the class but they shouldn't mention the name of the person their writing about, their partner should guess who it is, then they swap roles. The sts will change their partner and do the same. the T will elicit some sentences from the sts and write them on the board. Error correction. Wrap up of the lesson. Eliciting some vocabulary of the TL and ending the lesson by thanking them.
