Intermediate(B1) level


in this lesson students are going to learn adjective order.before the grammar lesson they will have a vocabulary review of the styles of the cloths and after that a listening which contains the nouns with a chain of adjectives which will expose them to the new grammar then the grammar will be clarified for them using a chart and then it will be a jumbled noun phrase that they should put them in order and finally a freer speaking task.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of adjective order in the context of style

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review adjectives in the context of clothing style
  • listening for specific information using a text about clothing style


Vocabulary-Lead in (3-5 minutes) • to review vocabulary related to clothing styles

Teacher will project or stick the picture of the clothes with different styles(long, short, baggy, tight,stripped, ...) on the board and ask them :"how do you describe it?" They will write the adjectives related to each clothes on the board. Some CCQ s to make sure everybody has got the meaning is it long or short? is it old or brand new? is it plain or stripped? FB: WC

Listening for gist (5-7 minutes) • exposure to new structure

first the teacher will show the picture of the people who are going to talk in the listening and asks the Sts to guess what are their favorite clothes. Sts will listen to four people speaking about their clothes and they will identify what are the favorite clothes of each person . they will check their answers with the partner FB: WC

Listening- for detail (5-7 minutes) • eliciting the new structure

Students will listen to the listening again and this time they will write down the adjectives describing each favorite item. they will listen once and then check with the partner . FB: the teacher will elicit the answers from the students and write them on the board .

Grammar-Adjective order (6-8 minutes) • clarification

PW: the teacher will give the Sts the chart which has the category or type of each adjective on the first row and asks them to fit the adjectives they've found for each item of the listening in this table. *the adjectives and the nouns from the listening are still on the board * T will also draw the table on the board and gives demo for the task. FB: T writes the correct answer on the board with the help of Sts and asks some CCQ for the meaning .

grammar- controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • to practice the newly taught grammar

GW:T will give the students flashcards of the jumbled noun phrases with different adjectives and in groups they will put them in is a competitive task and the first group who does it first is the winner. FB:T will give the answers in aHandouts and ask them to check CCQ: for some of the vocabularies

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • a semi controlled activity to practice adjective order

* T will give them Ho in two different version of A, B *Ss will sit back to back , they describe their pictures for each other to find the differences FB: T checks them by asking randomly and does some error correction of their language on the board.
