Describing objects , The adjectives
To provide clarification and practice of the adjectives to describe nouns and to use them in a context of describing and giving information
To provide freer speaking practice in a an informative conversation in the context of describing nouns
Procedure (42-57 minutes)
T describes objects in the classroom or clothes students are wearing to introduce the TL
T introduces adjectives and their opposites using PPT . Let the students speak about the adjectives they know to activate schemata . T asks sts to match in pairs the adjectives with their opposites. T gives sts answer key to check their answers
T uses demos , CCQs .and examples to describe meanings . T explains the form of the sentence ( pronoun / noun + verb to be + adjective ) then explains stress and drill for pronunciation.
T asks sts to do exercise 2 on page 16 in which they match the adjectives they learnt about with the pictures. Students check their answers in pairs . Teacher give an answer key
T shows a picture of Istanbul and London on PPT. T asks questions about ways of commuting in both places . Then students listen to two people describing means of transport in Istanbul and London . Sts use the adjectives given in the box to fill in the spaces. Students check their answers in a group then T gives an answer key
T gives sts a HO with fill in the gaps sentences . Sts are asked to use nouns or adjectives in the gaps . Teacher gives possible answers in two boxes of nouns and adjectives and sts can choose from them and fill in the spaces. Sts work in groups and check their answers.
Sts are asked to write 3 sentences to describe their city with a partner . After that sts swap their paper to read other students description. For more practice, T asks sts to write sentences to describe anything they want without writing it , and his / her partner should guess the noun described .
