Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Reported speech in the context of survey result.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Men and women in the context of Survey Result

Procedure

Leadn-in (3-5 minutes) • To expose the students to the context and the TL.

I will draw a picture of a man and a woman, asking the students to make a dialogue between them. the dialogue should be reported after that to introduce the TL of the lesson. A man said: or a woman said:

Reading for Gist (5-7 minutes) • To fill the gaps with "men and women" to the survey result text.

Students will skim the text about survey result on men and women. Students have to fill the gaps with either "men or women". according to the meaning and the facts that the survey presents. and I will monitor them while they ar Students have to work in pair to check their answers with their partner.

Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback of the answers by students.

Students have to check their answers while listening to the same text from the book.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the reported speech in the context of "men and women".

I will write a direct speech on the board and its backshift and what do is it mean? asking the students CCQs: who is the actual speaker in the direct speech? and who is reporting the speech? "I Play football" --- He said: " he played football". present simple backshifts to past simple. and past simple to a past perfect present continuous to past continuous present perfect to past perfect then I will drill every sentence for pronunciation.

Practice (6-8 minutes) • To practice the reported speech.

Students are going with pairs to answer the question about the reported speech. They have to fill the gaps with a correct form of the verb in the indirect speech and the actual speaker as well. I will monitor them and then they have to work together to check their answers. they have to find new partner to check their answers.

Freer practice-Speaking (6-8 minutes) • To practice speaking with the reported speech.

Students have to talk about themselves, then in a group they will report what their partner said using the TL we clarified and practiced before. I will monitor them to find out errors and make notes, at the end, if there are errors, I will correct them.
