Description

In this lesson,students learn about ordering food in a restaurant. The context will be restaurant and they will try to find the word restaurant in a hangman game. If you fail,you go to kitchen and wash the dishes!

Main Aims

  • To provide functional language in the context of restaurants.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice in a conversation between the customer and the server.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set a context and engage students

In this activity students will try to find the word Restaurant in a hangman game. *The teacher will write LA VIE EN ROSE is a french -----------. *Each student will say a vowel and a consonant to find it.

Vocabulary (7-10 minutes) • To introduce the students restaurant related new vocabulary.

The teacher will give flashcards and pictures to random students and then they will be mingling and showing each other to find their matches. As soon as they finish,they are going to stick them to the board. The Student who sticks will make the whole class repeat by my leading.

Grammar (7-10 minutes) • To introduce students functional language

The students will be given one phrase to memorise. As soon as they do,they will start searching their pairs. When they find the pairs,they are suppose to say them out loud to the class. The teacher will write some of them to show them some examples of functional langugage used in restaurants. The whole class will repeat the following sentences. HOW TO ORDER FOOD? Can I have/get an orange juice,please? CCQ-I am in a restaurant and I want an orange juice. How will I ask in a less polite way? Could I have/get a tomato juice,please? CCQ-I am in a restaurant and I want a tomato juice. How will I ask in a polite way? I want some water. CCQ-I am in a restaurant and I want some water. How will I ask in a less polite way? I would like to have/get some ice-cream,please. CCQ-I am in a restaurant and I want an ice-cream. How will I ask in a most polite way? The teacher ask students which one of those sentences are more polite and less polite? IMPORTANT:The students are suppose to make new sentences by the support of formulation on WB and the picture the teacher will show them. The exercise will be practiced by WC. **The pairs will have their sits together for the next exercises in HO. They have to discuss and find the answers together in Exercise 2a 2b and 3a.

Listening-Gap filling exercise (7-10 minutes) • To provide listening practice about an airport cafe.

The teacher chest the HO and ask them some questions about Indra. What is the name of the girl in the picture? Where is she? What is she doing? Where is she from? Following this ,the teacher tell the students to discuss with their partner what can she order from the menu. Explain to the sts, she is indian and she doesnt eat meat. She is vegetarian.

Semi-Controlled Practice, Choose a role (7-10 minutes) • To practice using functional language

The teacher will present the task by chesting the execises and explaining the task to the students. They have to choose a role and the teacher moves them into groups of 4 or 5 depending on the number of the students. 1st group- You don't like vegetables, and you are very hungry. 2nd group-You are hungry but you don't have much money 3rd group- You are not very hungry,but you dont want to eat on the plane. 4th-You are thirsty,and you want a healthy snack. The teacher will choose a waiter/waitress for each group. Gives them the menu. Gives the waiter an empty paper to write down the orders. The teacher tell them their functions and make them understand their roles clearly.
