Description

In this lesson Ss will have a review of the vocab of places in a town and then they will be introduced to how to use prepositions to describe the location of these places.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for prepositions in the context of places in a town or city

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a review of the lexical set of places in a town or city
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in using prepositions in the context of places in a town or city

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sticks the pictures of places in a town or city on the WB and asks the Ss to come to the board and form two teams and match them.

Setting the review activity (4-6 minutes) • To activate students' schemata of the target language

T asks the Ss to look at the town map on page 31 and number the places from 1-11

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students might find difficulty at

T shows the Ss the language summary 4C on page 114 using a powerpoint and clarifies for them the meaning and form of the TL.

controlled practice (4-6 minutes) • To Check students' use of the target language

T asks the Ss to do ex 4 by matching the diagrams with the prepositions and then T takes whole class FB

controlled practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide practice of the TL

T asks the Ss to do ex 5 by circling the correct answer. Then for FB T sticks the answers on the WB and asks the Ss to check their answers

Semi-controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide Ss with semi-controlled practice of the TL

T asks the Ss to do ex 6. Then T takes whole class FB and provides clarification and correction of any mistakes

Freer practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with speaking practice of the target language accurately

T asks the Ss to do ex 7 where they are going to imagine themselves in a car park and start asking each other questions about nearby places. Then for FB T writes on the WB some of the erroneous productions of the TL which was made by the Ss during the speaking activity and elicits the correction from the Ss
