Abc Inside Out Upper Intermediate

Main Aims

  • To provide comprehension by listening to recording about illness. To elicit words and provide pair work where SS think of solutions to illness.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide advice as according to text in response to illness. As well, word stresses and providing advice in a polite or impolite way.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) SS will be shown a picture of a person in the book. (man who's ill) 2) They will be asked to describe what his situation is. SS will be asked if he is healthy.

Pre-listening / Listening (15-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pre-listening 1) SS will be asked to think of all the illnesses they know. 2) SS will be asked to go around the room to each slit of text and decide whats wrong. 3) SS will be asked to think of one solution to one problem. Listening 1) SS will be asked to listen to text. Concept Questions: SS will be asked what the illness as in each example. 2) SS will be asked by teacher (WC) what is wrong with each person. 3) SS will be asked to say their solutions to the problem.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1) ) Example, SS will be asked which illness and solution from tapescript is true or not.

Listening and deciding (15-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1) Teacher will read and SS will decide if the examples were kind or not kind. (example 1) 2) SS will listen to example 2 (p. 35). As a whole class, they will be asked to repeat the words 3) HO- example 3 (extra examples) In PW one student will say a-d, other student will say e-h. SS will be in PW and will be asked to respond in a kind or unkind way. Ex. Student A: I cant sleep. Student B: You should use medicine. Ex. Student A: I cant sleep. Student B: Its not a problem.
