Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a asking there is and there are questions in the context of places in a twon or city
  • To provide review of lexical set of places in a town or city

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and connect this lesson to the previous lesson

T makes a link to the previous lesson and sees what the Ss can remember about Susan's conversation and then tries to elicit the TL from them and writes two affirmative sentences on the WB.

Review (3-5 minutes) • To provide review of the negative form of there is and there are

T writes two negative sentences of there is and there are on the WB and contrasts them with the previous affirmative sentences by eliciting the way from the Ss.

controlled practice (2-5 minutes) • To practice the reviewed language

T gives the Ss a sheet of paper for gap filling the missing verb to be. Then for FB T asks the Ss to go and check their answers from the answers key which is stuck on the wall.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the form and pronunciation of the target language

T elicits from the Ss how to form the questions for there is and there are and then elicits from them the short answers of these questions.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T uses prompts (papers with words on such as a cinema / nice cafes) T does a substitution drill- shows the prompt, nominates a S to form the question then choral drill repeating the process a few times.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with a controlled practice of the target language

T asks the Ss to do ex 8 by asking them to look at the prompts and write the correct questions in pairs. T checks the answers and gives the Ss an answer key.

Semi-controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with semi-controlled speaking practice of the target language

T sets up the speaking part by telling the Ss they are going to ask and answer about where they live. T does a demo of this. T tells the Ss where he lives and gets the the Ss to ask him some of thew questions T tells the Ss to do the same in pairs. T monitors while they are speaking and takes notes of errors to go over after the activity.
