Description

In this lesson, students learn about the unreal conditionals through guided discovery based on a matching handouts text about the money. The lesson starts with a discussion about rich person. This is followed by close up reading where students read,relate, and answer questions about money.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide students speaking about their imagines with unreal conditionals of the course book. By the end of the lesson students will have developed their skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in conversation in the context of unreal conditionals using if-clauses type 2

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start to my lesson showing a sad man pictures and I will tell my students this is my friend Ahmet. And I will ask my students is he happy or sad? Why do you think he is sad then they will see he does not have money. I will stick on sad man's picture on the white board. I will show them a lottary ticket and I will ask them what happens if you win a lottery? What are you? You're very rich ! - What would you buy if you were rich ? Then I will listen their answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will write on the WB If you have too much money, what would you do ? Then, I will highlight If and would. Then I will explain to students why and I will give them about two minutes to discuss in pairs and they will share their answers as a class.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Now, I will distribute handouts to the students and have them read first. I will give them about two minutes to read and I will tell them match the if-clauses with the correct main clauses. I will have them work in pairs to complete matching the if-clauses with the correct main clauses. For the next, I am going to give them about five minutes to complete this exercise with a partner.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

Now, students will work with a partner and they are going to discuss exercises 2 questions. I will give them about five minustes to discuss questions and I will listen their answers.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Now, I will write on the white board - If I were not so busy, I would go to gym more often. and If I was not so busy, I would go to the gym more often. Then I will ask students what is the difference between these two sentences. Are they both grammatically correct? Is there any difference in meaning between the two sentences? I will give them about seven minutes to answer these questions. They will work in pairs.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

For exercise four they will work in groups. Discuss the following situations. I will give them about six minutes to complete this exercise with groups.

Fallow-up (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

I will tell them complete the sentences to make them true for you. They will discuss their sentences with a partner. I will give them about seven minutes to finish this work with their partners.
