Description

In this lesson, students will practice clothes vocabulary. First, the ss will be tested, the words will be elicited from them, after meaning, ss will focus on the form and pronunciation. After, they will practice the colors and describe the clothes of the people by looking at the pictures. After this step, the ss will listen about the preferences of the people about clothes and this step will prepare ss to tell about their preferences about clothes. Then, the class will move to freer practice, they will write some sentences about the people in the class and the other ss will guess the people. As a last step, the ss will describe the people in the HO and they will guess the people.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of clothes vocabulary in the context of daily clothes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about clothes in the context of colours
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a speaking in the context of daily clothes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The t points a student and says "what a nice t-shirt!" by showing it and says the ss will study clothes vocabulary in this lesson.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss look at the photos on page 52, match the clothes with the names in pairs. T takes w/c feedback.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students listen to the track 6.12 for the pronunciation of the clothes vocabulary. The t focuses on the problematic ones. T shows "a pair of" structure and focuses on singular and plural words.

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss point to the picture of the clothes and tell the word in pairs.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss listen and practise saying the colors. T elicits the form from ss. eg. "a black t-shirt".

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss look at the colored pictures of the people on PPT and practice asking "what colour are (Lisa's shoes)? "What colour is (Wayne's shirt)?" questions and answer them. They change roles. T monitors, takes notes, takes w/c feedback.

Semi-controlled practice (5-6 minutes)

Ss listen to the track 6.14, and put the people in the order they hear. Ss peer-check. T takes w/c feedback. T writes sentences with "usually wear", "sometimes wear" and "never wear" about herself. Ss write sentences about themselves and share their ideas in groups.

Freer Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

T writes some sentences about ss on WB. eg. "She is wearing a black t-shirt." and ss guess which ss. After that, ss write two sentences about the people in the class in their pairs and the other pairs try to guess the people.

Freer Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

The t hands out Identity Parades HO and one s in each pair describes the people in the pictures and the other guesses and they swap roles.

Wrap Up (1-2 minutes) • To wrap up the lesson

T elicits the vocabulary from ss and ends the lesson by thanking to them.
