Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use "have got" through PPP based on a situation at a Payphone. The lesson starts with a discussion about what might be happening at the Payphone. This is followed by listen and complete the gaps with the phrases where ss will be exposed to the target language then moving to complete the gaps activity where ss attention will be drawn to the target language. Finally there are some controlled practice through complete the gaps with the correct form of "have got" and then a freer practice where students will be working in pairs and ask each other questions using the target language.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of '' have got'' in the context of a situation at a Payphone.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation through asking and answering some questions using the target language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Project a picture of two people at a Payphone. Tell Ss to look at the picture and tell me ( what is the situation here? what is happening? do you think the girl have a problem?) who is the man ? Ask them to work in group and talk about what do you think the problem? Give them 1 minute. Moniter them. Provide quick whole class Feedback by asking them (What do you think the problem)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Explain the situation to the students and try to elicit the target language. Make them listen to the track and fill the gaps with the phrases. Provide whole class feedback.

Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

If the ss didn't open the books yet ask them to open them to page 20. Project the activity and explain to the ss what you need them to do. Moniter them Ask them to check their answers in pairs. Project or give them answer keys.

Clarification (11-13 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Write a sentence from the previous activity I've got my mobile phone with me. Use CCQ to clarfiy the meaning Do I have my mobile phone with me? yes Do I own it? is it mine? yes So do we use have got to talk about possession = something we own.? yes Elicit the form Elicit the use of third person. She has got a mobile phone. Elicit the question form and short answers. Draw their attention to that ''have got'' can't be used in short form. Drill the sentence Ask them if they have a question. Ask them to copy what you wrote in their notebook.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Project the activity and show ss what you need them to do. Answer the first gap with them. Ask them to work in pairs. Monitor them. Ask them to check their answers in groups. Provide whole class Feedback.

Free Practice (11-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Show the cut ups to the ss and tell them that you are going to give them these cut ups and you need them to match quesrtions with the right answer. Ask them to work in groups. Moniter them Ask them to compare their answers. Provide whole class feedback. Show the hand out to the ss. tell them that you want them to work with a partner and ask each other some of the above questions using these things in the box. Ask them to stand up and move around. Monitar them Provide delayed Feedback
