Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Talk to the students about things around (get personalized) Address them by using their names. 2. Show them the video to set the context. The video shows a person making buildings and roads showing prepositions of the place. 3. While students are watching the video, write down the main words like name of the buildings, roads, and prepositions of place. 4. When the video is finished get the feedback. Elicit from them. 5. Ask students to compare their responses to the vocabulary written on the board.

Exposure to theTask (6 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

1.Show them the picture having roads, crossings and buildings. Tell them to work in pairs. 2. Look at the picture and brainstorm the ideas. 3. Read carefully the names of the buildings and roads and crossings. 4. Think of words that might connect these buildings. Reflect back at the video at the lead-in stage. 5. Say and ask difficult words to your partners.

Planning (8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Give the handout to the students. 2. Work in pairs. Say and ask: A. Where is the police station? B. It is across from the drugstore. A: Where is the train station? B: It is on the Central Avenue. 3. Take turn say and ask. ask at least 11 questions each based on the map

Planning the Report (8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

After the task is finished write all the sentences on the paper. 1. Call on student from the group and present report in front of the class. 2. Call another student from the second group and present his report. 3. Make other students in the group ask questions to the group members presenting report in front of the class. 4. While the students are busy with planning and making reports, move about and see if they have any problem. Note down any issue they might have.

Report (7 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language (Prepositions of place)

1. Write down the prepositions of place on the board. 2. Display the map on the board and elicit these preposition from the students emphasizing the relationship with reference to prepositions. 3. Give them a sample sentence showing the relationship of a noun or a pronoun with other words trough a prepositions. 4. Explain the meaning by referring to the map. These meaning will be expository not explanatory. 5. Check any pronunciation issue these prepositions might have. 6. Graphic representation of these preposition will be helpful.

Language Practice (freer) (10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Now, the students have got idea of prepositions of the place. 1. Keep on referring the vocabulary items that might need repetition to internalize in. 2. Show them the handout and give clear instructions what to do. 3. Make them sit in the group of three. This will help them coordinate in the group. 4. Give them the feedback by showing the answer sheet on the board. 5. Ask your students, " Is it a good way of teaching?" Get their feedback in task based learning.
