Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce vocabulary realted to daily routines

Subsidiary Aims

  • to put the vocabulary into controlled speaking practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (2-3 minutes) • To review the previous lesson

In this lesson, The students will go over practicing times learnt before. I will write some examples of time on the WB like 06:10, 06:50, 06:20, 06:40 etc.to repeat the previous lesson quickly. To avoid chaos in class because it can be big, I will ask the students to write them down. I will monitor and check if anybody has dificulty. Then the students will compare their answers and after I will nominate a student one by one to say the time. I will the cut up paper with time on the WB so that the students can see them and check their answers. Since the students are visual learners, it will help them to memorize the words.

Vocabulay work (6-8 minutes) • to teach related vocabulary and to provide some practice

In this stage, I will set up a situational context and l will elicit the TL ( 10 words) e.g. get home, leave home, have breakfast etc. Every time when the students can guess the meaning of a word, I will write a word combination and will stick the pictures related to them. Then I will give the students to write down the words in their notebooks and mix the pictures and then by pointing at them, I will elicit the words again along with drilling.

Vocabulary work (10-12 minutes) • To focus on differences of times of day.

Then I will draw a crescent line on the wb to draw the students' attention on times of a day, morning, afternoon, evening and night. I can help them to do it by asking CCQs like: Do we have breakfast at night? No Do we start work in the evening? No Do we sleep in the afternoon? Yes ( sometimes) At first the students will put the learnt words in the right category on their own to ensure everybody learnt the vocabulary and then 4 strong students will categorize them on the wb to check the correct order. After they finish, I will give them the pictures of Carol's routine for extended practice. The sts will have to match the words with picture.

Controlled speaking practice (7-10 minutes) • To consolidate vocabulary, to do controlled practice of the TL.

The student will tell their partner what time they do the things discussed in exercise 3. I will show how to do the practice by using the WB and maybe a student too.. I will monitor and listen, whenever the students need my help, I will interfere.

Vocabulay work (5-6 minutes) • to focus on new vocabulary related to time

I will focus on the pronunciation, use and differences of the words, midday, midnight, university etc. by telling that midday is 12:00 o'clock in the afternoon, midnight is at 12 o'clock at nignt. Besides, I will ask CCQs: Do we sleep at midnight? Yes Do we eat dinner at midnight? No Do we have breakfast at midday?

Reading (5-6 minutes) • To make practice of using time in the context

The students will read about Carol's typical day and fill in the gaps with the correct times. I will give the answer sheet to the students to check their answers. I will monitor while the students are checking and then if it is necessary, I will go over the mistakes with the whole class.
